Alloooora, we arrived in Iceland and we figured out how to move . Now is the event of a look 'round!
We are in the eastern fjords: a few villages of a few people, so many curves, mountains and expanses of land and ocean without end. We arrive in a village in particular, Stöðvarfjörður , a hundred miles from Egilsstaðir, 270 residents and dozens of visitors every day. All
go there with a purpose: ammmirare Steinasafn Petru, the extraordinary house-museum of minerals of Petra. Petra is an old woman who now has about 90 years: from a young age has started to collect stones and minerals in the nearby towns first, then in all the eastern fjords and beyond. To date, his is the largest private collection of minerals in Europe.
entrance there are two children at the counter, probably grandchildren of the old Petra, already very good at juggling with the payments in euro (remember that the currency in Iceland is the crown). The price for entry is about 3 €.
You can visit the garden, full of minerals, dwarves, elves and various statues and part of the house (to visit some rooms even pass in front of the kitchen where grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Petra gathered around the table).
What prevents the museum to be considered kitsch (but weird, that's so weird ...) is the love and passion of Petra that you can feel the garden watching her and reading her extraordinary biography.
you tomorrow for another Icelandic recipe: salt this time ;-)
